The Taneytown Dance Center's junior dance company, a.k.a. Junior Xpressions, was formed in 2008. Junior Xpressions is directed by Miss Elissa Weil and is comprised of nine serious dance students, ages 9 and up. The Jr. students have been individually selected by the Directrice and JDC Director.
Junior Xpressions members are required to take a once a week Ballet Tech class with the Directrice and participate in 1 1/2 hour weekly Jr. rehearsals and all performances. Jr. members must maintain appropriate grade averages in school and must always demonstrate an attitude and behavior consistent with the values of the Taneytown Dance Center.
Each Jr. student is assigned a "Big Sister" Senior Company member. This Big Sister is available to share experiences, help answer questions, and act as mentor and support for her Little Sister.
The Junior Xpressions perform at a variety of area venues including Christmas performances at Boyd's Bears and the Westminster Ag Center. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Senior Company must be a member of the Junior Company first, however, being a member of Jr. does not guarantee a place in Senior Company.
In order to be considered for the Junior Xpressions, a student must be personally selected for an open position by the Directrice and Miss Elissa Weil, Junior Xpressions Director. Students must have demonstrated a specific amount of ballet experience with the Directrice, must be at least 9 years old, and must possess the necessary years of dance training. If you would like additional information on the Junior Xpressions, please contact Miss Liss or the Directrice.
